Room on the Broom is a much loved best seller written by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler. First published in 2001 by Macmillan Childrens Books, the book has been translated into 28 different languages and is hugely popular in USA, where it topped the children’s picture book charts in the USA for 6 weeks over Halloween 2012.
In 2012 Magic Light Pictures produced a half hour animated special based on Room on the Broom. First broadcast in the UK on BBC One, the film was seen by 7.6m viewers during the Christmas period.
The film has been nominated for an Oscar and won the 2013 BAFTA Children's Award for Animation. In March 2013, it was the recipient of the Royal Television Society Children's Programme award. The jury's citation described the film as "exceptionally rich, moving and powerful - a work of genius."
